UD PRO International Ballet Pianist Symposium

Effective date: July 1, 2026

By registering for or participating in the UD PRO International Ballet Pianist Symposium (“Symposium”), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.

1. Organizer

UD PRO is the professional-development division of United Dance.

United Dance is fiscally sponsored by the Foundation for Independent Artists, Inc. (“FIA”), a nonprofit organization administered by Counterpart, doing business as The Performance Zone, Inc.

In these Terms, “United Dance,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the organizer of the Symposium.

The Symposium venue, guest faculty, dancers, vendors, and partner organizations are not responsible for United Dance’s contractual obligations unless expressly stated otherwise in writing. Use of a venue does not imply that the venue sponsors or endorses the Symposium.

2. Eligibility and registration

Registration is subject to availability and is not confirmed until:

The registration form has been completed;
These Terms and Conditions have been accepted; and
Full payment has been received.

Participants must be at least 18 years old. A participant under 18 may attend only with the prior written approval of United Dance and the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Registration is issued to the person named on the registration form. It may not be resold or transferred without prior written approval from United Dance.

United Dance may decline or cancel a registration when reasonably necessary because of safety concerns, legal requirements, nonpayment, capacity limitations, or material misrepresentation on the registration form. If United Dance cancels an individual registration for a reason unrelated to the participant’s conduct, the registration fee paid will be refunded.

3. Payment and pricing

The full registration price and all mandatory fees will be disclosed before payment.

Payment must be made through the payment methods provided during registration or listed on the participant’s invoice. Any optional products or services will be identified separately.

The participant is responsible for ensuring that the billing and contact information provided is complete and accurate.

Any discount code must be entered before payment and cannot be applied retroactively unless United Dance agrees otherwise in writing. Discounts have no cash value and may not be combined unless expressly permitted.

4. Participant cancellations, transfers, and refunds

All registration fees are nonrefundable.

This includes cancellation because of travel disruption, visa issues, transportation delays, scheduling conflicts, professional commitments, changes in personal circumstances, or failure to attend any portion of the Symposium.

When a participant cannot attend because of a documented serious illness, injury, or other exceptional circumstance, United Dance may, at its discretion, offer a full or partial refund, credit, or transfer. Supporting documentation may be requested. This exception does not guarantee a refund.

A participant who cannot attend may request to transfer the registration to another eligible participant. Transfers are subject to United Dance’s prior written approval and must be requested before the Symposium begins.

Failure to attend, late arrival, or early departure does not entitle a participant to a refund, credit, transfer, or reduction in the registration fee.

Any refund, credit, or transfer approved as an exception will be determined by United Dance. Approved refunds will be returned, when practicable, to the original payment method.

5. Changes, postponement, and cancellation by United Dance

The published schedule, faculty, dancers, activities, repertoire, rooms, instruments, equipment, and format are subject to reasonable change.

United Dance may substitute a faculty member, dancer, presenter, or activity because of illness, emergency, professional obligations, travel disruption, force majeure, or another circumstance beyond its reasonable control.

A faculty substitution or reasonable schedule adjustment does not, by itself, entitle a participant to a refund, provided that United Dance delivers a substantially comparable program.

United Dance may postpone, relocate, shorten, modify, or cancel all or part of the Symposium because of severe weather, public-health concerns, venue unavailability, government action, labor disruption, transportation interruption, civil disorder, natural disaster, acts or threats of violence, insufficient enrollment, or another circumstance that makes the Symposium impracticable, illegal, or unsafe.

If United Dance cancels the entire Symposium and does not offer a rescheduled event, participants will receive a refund of the registration fee and any mandatory registration charges paid to United Dance.

If the Symposium is rescheduled, participants may transfer their registration to the new date or request a refund within the deadline stated in the rescheduling notice.

If only a limited portion of the Symposium is cancelled, United Dance may provide an appropriate partial refund, credit, substitute session, or other reasonable remedy based on the portion affected.

United Dance is not responsible for airfare, rail tickets, hotels, meals, ground transportation, visa expenses, lost income, instrument rental, or any other personal or third-party expense. Participants are encouraged to purchase refundable travel arrangements or appropriate travel insurance.

6. Educational nature of the Symposium

The Symposium is a professional-development and educational event.

Participation does not guarantee employment, professional advancement, certification, representation, admission to another program, or any particular artistic or career outcome.

The views expressed by individual faculty members, presenters, or participants are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of United Dance, FIA, Counterpart, the venue, or any other participating organization.

7. Participation and professional conduct

Participants agree to:

Treat faculty, dancers, staff, venue personnel, and fellow participants respectfully;
Follow reasonable instructions from United Dance and venue staff;
Arrive on time and avoid disrupting sessions;
Use instruments, studios, equipment, scores, and other property responsibly;
Comply with venue, safety, security, and emergency procedures;
Refrain from harassment, discrimination, intimidation, threatening behavior, and unwanted physical contact; and
Refrain from attending while experiencing a contagious illness that could reasonably endanger others.

United Dance may issue a warning, restrict participation, or remove a participant whose behavior is unsafe, unlawful, discriminatory, harassing, threatening, disruptive, or materially inconsistent with these Terms.

No refund will be provided when a participant is removed for serious or repeated misconduct.

A participant is responsible for damage that the participant intentionally causes, or causes through reckless or seriously improper use, to instruments, equipment, facilities, or other property.

8. Accessibility and accommodations

United Dance welcomes participants with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations and reasonable modifications in accordance with applicable law.

Accommodation requests should be sent to info@uniteddance.org as early as possible and, when practicable, at least 14 days before the Symposium. United Dance will consider later requests but cannot guarantee that every accommodation can be arranged on short notice.

A participant will not be excluded solely because the participant requests an accommodation or chooses to disclose disability-related information. Participants should disclose only the information reasonably necessary to explain the requested accommodation.

United Dance cannot guarantee that every requested modification will be available when it would fundamentally alter the nature of the Symposium, create an undue burden, or present a direct and significant safety risk that cannot be reduced through reasonable measures.

9. Health and emergency care

Participants are responsible for determining whether they are physically and medically able to participate in the Symposium’s activities.

A participant should inform United Dance of any emergency information or access need that is reasonably necessary for safe participation. Participants are not required to provide complete medical records.

In an emergency, the participant authorizes United Dance and venue personnel to contact emergency services and provide emergency responders with relevant information supplied by the participant.

United Dance does not provide medical treatment and cannot guarantee that staff members with medical training will be present.

The participant is responsible for any medical, ambulance, hospital, medication, or related expenses incurred on the participant’s behalf.

10. Assumption of risk and release of liability

Symposium activities may include playing musical instruments; handling scores, benches, stands, and equipment; moving through rehearsal studios and common areas; observing or working near dancers; and participating in live instructional sessions.

These activities involve ordinary risks, including slips, trips, falls, collisions, repetitive-motion discomfort, hearing discomfort, muscle strain, equipment-related injury, exposure to illness, and loss of or damage to personal property.

To the fullest extent permitted by Massachusetts law, the participant:

Voluntarily assumes the ordinary and inherent risks associated with participation;
Accepts responsibility for following safety instructions and using instruments and equipment appropriately; and
Releases and agrees not to bring a claim against United Dance, FIA, Counterpart d/b/a The Performance Zone, Inc., the venue, and their respective officers, directors, employees, faculty, contractors, volunteers, and agents for personal injury or property damage arising from the ordinary negligence of a released party in connection with the Symposium.

This release does not apply to gross negligence, recklessness, intentional misconduct, fraud, or any liability that cannot lawfully be waived.

Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable right or remedy available under applicable law.

11. Personal property

Participants are responsible for their instruments, scores, computers, phones, bags, clothing, and other personal property.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, United Dance and the venue are not responsible for property that is lost, stolen, left unattended, or damaged, except to the extent directly caused by conduct for which liability cannot legally be excluded.

Participants should not leave valuables unattended.

12. Intellectual property and participant recordings

All Symposium materials—including presentations, handouts, arrangements, recordings, exercises, schedules, logos, graphics, photographs, and audiovisual content—remain the property of United Dance, the applicable faculty member, or another identified rights holder.

Registration provides a limited, personal, noncommercial right to use materials supplied to the participant for the participant’s own education and professional development.

Registration does not transfer ownership or grant permission to publish, sell, reproduce, upload, distribute, teach from, or commercially exploit these materials.

Participants may not photograph, film, livestream, or make audio recordings of a session, dancer, faculty member, screen, score, or presentation without prior permission from United Dance and the individuals concerned.

Participants may not upload Symposium content to social media, video-sharing services, file-sharing platforms, artificial-intelligence training systems, or other public or commercial services without written authorization.

United Dance may require a participant to delete an unauthorized recording and may remove a participant for serious or repeated violations.

13. Photography and media consent

United Dance may photograph or record portions of the Symposium for documentation, education, archival use, reporting, and promotional purposes.

Media consent will be requested separately during registration. A participant who does not consent may opt out without being denied admission to the Symposium. United Dance will make reasonable efforts to avoid identifiable close-up images of participants who opt out.

Because the Symposium takes place in a group setting, United Dance cannot guarantee exclusion from every incidental, background, crowd, or wide-angle image. A participant who has opted out should identify themselves to staff at check-in so that practical arrangements can be made.

A participant who separately provides media consent authorizes United Dance to use the participant’s name, voice, image, likeness, and recorded participation in the ways described in that consent, without additional compensation.

14. Participant information and privacy

United Dance will collect and use registration information for event administration, payment processing, accessibility arrangements, emergency communication, recordkeeping, and related operational purposes.

Information may be shared with service providers, FIA, Counterpart, the venue, or emergency personnel only to the extent reasonably necessary to administer the Symposium, process payment, provide an accommodation, comply with the law, or respond to an emergency.

Payment-card information is handled through the applicable payment processor and is subject to that processor’s terms and privacy practices.

Registration for the Symposium does not automatically constitute consent to receive unrelated promotional emails. Any marketing subscription will be offered separately, and participants may unsubscribe from marketing communications.

15. Third-party services and venue rules

Third-party platforms, payment processors, hotels, transportation providers, restaurants, and other independent businesses are governed by their own terms and policies.

United Dance is not responsible for the acts, omissions, availability, pricing, or performance of an independent third party.

Participants must comply with all reasonable rules imposed by the Symposium venue, including rules concerning entry, security, food and beverages, instrument use, restricted areas, photography, smoking, alcohol, and emergency procedures.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.

Before filing a legal claim, the participant and United Dance agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve the dispute informally. A participant may begin this process by writing to info@uniteddance.org and describing the issue and requested resolution.

Unless applicable law requires otherwise, any legal proceeding concerning these Terms or the Symposium shall be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction located in Massachusetts.

Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking emergency injunctive relief or filing a complaint with an appropriate governmental or consumer-protection agency.

17. General provisions

These Terms, together with the registration form, any separately accepted liability waiver or media release, and any policies clearly presented before payment, constitute the agreement concerning participation in the Symposium.

If there is a conflict between these Terms and a specific written term displayed during registration, the more specific term will control.

If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect to the fullest extent permitted by law.

A failure by United Dance to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive its right to enforce that provision later.

United Dance may update these Terms for future registrations. The version accepted when a participant registers will govern that registration, except when a change is required by law or is reasonably necessary for safety.
